Oblivion Stone Mine
Digital Collage Series, 2024 – Ongoing
Derived from the photographs of the Oblivion Stones series, Oblivion Stone Mine establishes a parallel between the geological formation of mines and the heat-induced deformation of optical discs—a process where digital memory is erased as the object calcifies into a stone-like state. The work visualises the tension between the obsolescence of memory and the material reproduction of the object through the lens of a fictional "mine”. In the context of Museum Gazhane, the concept of digital memory burning into plastic engages directly with the site’s industrial past of coal-to-energy conversion. Tracing the material lineage of plastic back to coal, this dialogue reveals a shared process of "unearthing layers," creating a metaphorical link between the concept of data mining and the historical, spatial memory of the venue.
